STNG

Steampunk Culture

I understand better than any of you that my introverted being-ness disqualifies me from ever partaking. However it has everything a dork like me appreciates - I mean very much wants to appreciate. And these things can flow in to each other .

We have DIY science and tech projects that can then, in some cases, be used for cosplay.

Ah yes. Cosplay.

And From here it is but a short stroll to some indie music. For example:

I know guys, I know, I am a dork that can't even commit to being a dork.

And Saturday is my day to do the dishes and vaccum the living room and make sure the children are bathed ... all the while listening to commerical radio.

A Sheperd Fairey Primer

via Wooster Collective

Andyism

The Tarvupedia has updated with an article about Andy.

Speaking of MMOG's

Last night we again engaged in our pretty regularly continuing WoW nerf vs. balancing discussion. This morning Dave forwarded me this. (follow the link to give them the hits they deserve) Here is a teaser:

US Democracy Server: Patch Day
Version 44.0
President
Leadership: Will now scale properly to national crises. Intelligence was not being properly applied.
A bug has been fixed that allowed the President to ignore the effects of debuffs applied by the Legislative classes.
Drain Treasury: There appears to be a bug that allowed loot to be transferred from the treasury to anyone on the President’s friends list, or in the President’s party. We are investigating.
Messages to and from the President will now be correctly saved to the chat log.
Messages originating from the President were being misclassified as originating from The American People.
A rendering error that frequently caused the President to appear wrapped in the American Flag texture has been addressed.

There is so much more.
This transition just keeps on giving.

Art Imitates... well, Gus and Dock.

Just in case you're new to the internet, Fark.com runs a few Photoshop threads every day. One of the recent ones called for "truthful logos."

Thanks for the desktop background, Cranberryzero.

World of Goo

So a couple days ago I tried to post a YouTube video of this sweet new (to me) indie game called World of Goo.  I got my YouTube account linked to SourceDorks, spent a bunch of time writing it up, hit Share, and lost it all.

So screw that.  Just for the love of god go here and at least get the demo of this game.  I'll just say that it scratches my Portal itch and leave it at that.

Again with music companies killing themselves

But hey, atleast it aint iTunes, right Gus?

I can post from work now.

This is not good but stuff like this is:

Movie Posters Resurgent

We're coming out of a dark period for movie posters, when promo art for new pictures almost always consisted of a bunch of celebrity faces photoshopped into a crappy pastiche. Then there was the period where all comedy posters featured the stars against a white background with red letters. There's still some awful (and frequently hilarious) crap hanging in the hallways of your local cineplex, but a handful of Hollywood art directors are getting a serious bug up their ass. And there's at least one or two execs cool enough to sign off on their work.

Feltron Eight

Sometimes, I like to count things.  It gives me pleasure to quantify the occurrences of certain everyday objects and events.  Apparently, Nicholas Felton shares this interest.  He has recently produced his annual report on his activities for 2008.

Adventure Construction Set: Or Geekdom Blossoms

A single play of Dwarf Fortress (thanks AVK) had me thinking back to 1985, when I first ran across the Adventure Construction Set. WoW has nothing on it as a time sink. Anyone else get started with this game? If not, what was your first gaming addiction?

No More Excuses.

You can't put it off any longer. Loving fans of the game that is guaranteed to provide you with more fun* than any other are posting tutorials on you tube (just in case you're too lazy to use the fabulous wiki).

(My inclusion of this tutorial should not be construed as an endorsement of the strategy employed- I do not usually outfit my dwarves for agriculture at the outset of the game.)

So get started! The mountains aren't going to carve themselves out!

Gus has a Time Machine!

I have found pictures of Gus hanging out in the past. Clearly, they are him, and clearly they are not 'present day' hence, the only conclusion is Gus must have a time machine of some sort.

Or maybe he is one of those non-aging vampires

okay, bonus points for who can identify the real person in these two pictures
